* The melodica part is especially prominent in the trio. If a melodica is unavailable, an accordion, electric keyboard, or anything that can replicate the free-reeded sound of the melodica can be substituted. And melodicas can be marched so don’t leave out this part.
** The flugelhorn parts act as supplements to the trumpets and horns, but are especially important for reinforcing the horn and trombone melody during the final strain. If flugelhorns aren’t available, play the parts with trumpets or cornets.
