Alpine Reveries

Music
Wind Band

Cover art by Scarlet Bourland

$125.00-$150.00

This piece, “Alpine Reveries”, loosely draws inspiration from visions of a grand mountain and its beautiful landscapes. The opening section introduces the idea, reminiscent of an early morning as everything is waking up. The “dance” section vaguely depicts a village beneath the mountain and the happenings throughout it. After, the mood suddenly changes, which signifies a storm incoming. The intensity builds until it is all released in a bombastic shower of sound. Finally, the storm ends and rays of light are cast through as the beautiful day begins to emerge again. A final look at the grandeur of the landscape is presented with the final section of music, being very grand and broad.

– With regards to low reeds, the parts should be covered as best as possible. Bass clarinet, baritone saxophone, and bassoons should be present. Alto clarinet has many important solo lines so it is best to use it if available. Contrabass clarinet (or contra-alto clarinet) and contrabassoon are understandably less common, so important parts are cued elsewhere, but should be used if avaliable. The alto and contrabass clarinet parts are written such that important lines are able to be covered by one player doubling both instruments. Bass saxophone should be used if available.
– English horn and E♭ clarinet are not entirely necessary, but should be used if available.
– If a melodica is not available but an electric keyboard is, the part may be played on the keyboard with the accordion, melodica, or similar sound. Or an accordion may be substituted also.
– If a turkish crescent (“Jingling Johnny”) is not available, the player may use a tambourine and sleigh bells to replicate the sound of the turkish crescent.
– If flugelhorns are not available, the parts may be covered by trumpets or cornets.
– If there are less than 5 trumpet/flugelhorn players, then the flugelhorn parts may be left out as important lines will be cued in trumpet parts.
